The Animal Phenotyping Platform at the Max Delbrück Center is a state-of-the-art research platform dedicated to advanced phenotypic analysis of animal models. We integrate structural, microstructural, and physiological data to enhance understanding of preclinical disease models, particularly in neurological, cardiovascular, and cancer research. Our team of experts is at the forefront of innovative imaging techniques and data analysis, contributing to groundbreaking scientific discoveries.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scientist (m/f/d) to perform imaging experiments, develop protocols, and analyze data for neurological, cardiovascular, and cancer studies. This position offers the exciting opportunity to contribute to ongoing research projects while also pursuing your own research interests.

Job Description


  • conduct in vivo and ex vivo imaging using the Bruker BioSpec 3T MRI scanner, equipped with a variety of different coils, including a cryo-coil
  • perform MRI data acquisition, storage and analysis
  • develop and optimize MRI sequences and experimental protocols
  • collaborate with researchers to coordinate studies
  • ensure a safe, compliant, and efficient laboratory environment
  • maintain detailed electronic records of all experimental procedures and results
  • manage and maintain the MRI scanner and related equipment
  • analyze imaging data using advanced software tools, such as Python and MATLAB
  • design and conduct independent research projects aligned with the platform's goals

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a related field (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Radiology, Veterinary Science, Physics)
  • extensive in vivo experience with animal models, specifically mice and rats (mandatory)
  • extensive experience with MRI techniques and technologies (mandatory)
  • strong proficiency in structural and functional MRI techniques
  • knowledge of MRI sequence programming (desirable)
  • programming skills for data analysis (e.g., Python, MATLAB) are highly desirable
  • excellent teamwork, communication, networking, and motivational skills
  • demonstrated ability to conduct complex research projects

Practical apprenticeship

The MRI scientist (m/f/d) will play a crucial role in applying MRI to provide detailed structural, microstructural, and physiological data for preclinical research projects. This position is pivotal in advancing our understanding of neurological, cardiovascular, and cancer diseases, supporting the broader mission of the Animal Phenotyping Platform.
