The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapies and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population at large. Since 2021 the BIH has been integrated into Charité as its so-called third pillar.
For the the Gaebler and Ibrahim Labs starting from the 01.01.2025 limited until 31.12.2026 we are looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist (d/f/m) in Life Sciences/Genetics in full-time (38,5h/week).
The Gaebler and Ibrahim Labs are joining forces to conduct a project at the interface of (retro)virology and gene regulation.
The Gaebler lab studies viral immunity and immunotherapy, with a particular focus on HIV latency and HIV cure research.
The Ibrahim lab is interested understanding the principles of gene regulation, how they control cell differentiation, and how these are disrupted in disease. We apply functional genomics to profile the regulatory genome and develop and apply new methods in genome engineering to leverage that knowledge.
In this project we want to combine our knowledge, resources and expertise to study the mechanisms underlying HIV latency and the effects of genomic location on viral activity.
What you can expect
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow (d/f/m) for a collaborative project at the intersection of (retro)virology and gene regulation. The role involves developing novel strategies to sequence viral genomes and integration sites, with a focus on understanding how positional effects impact gene expression and viral activation. If you have a background in genome engineering, gene regulation and virology and want to work in an interdisciplinary, highly collaborative research environment, we encourage you to apply.
- Development and implementation of third-generation viral sequencing technologies
- Developing targeted knock-in approaches across various human cell lines
- Application of site-specific, cas9-directed integration techniques to test position effects for gene expression
- Utilization of bioinformatic tools for data analysis and interpretation
What you bring along
- Completed PhD in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, virology, or a related field
- Background in (epi)genetic regulation of repetitive elements, gene regulation, viral genomics or related areas.
- Experience with next-generation and third-generation sequencing technologies
- Proficiency in basic bioinformatics and computational analysis of sequencing data
- Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques
